Our Approach to Artist Management
Red Velvet Studios is a Los Angeles-based boutique artist development agency and management company working with a roster of serious independent artists.
When an artist joins Red Velvet Studios, they become part of a professional roster focused on long-term career growth. We are selective about who we work with because we invest significant time, strategy, and professional resources into helping our artists develop.
Unlike traditional management companies that often wait until an artist has already achieved substantial success, we work with artists in the development stage and help build the foundation required to create a successful independent career and, if desired, position themselves for major record label opportunities.
What Managers Typically Look For
Traditional managers are often looking for artists who already have a successful business and career to manage.
An established independent artist may already have:
- 100,000+ monthly listeners
- Significant streaming income
- A large and engaged social media following
- A dedicated fan base
- Sold-out shows
- Touring opportunities
- Consistent merchandise sales
- Brand partnerships and sponsorships
- Sync licensing opportunities
- A professional team already in place
- Significant industry attention
This is an artist who has built something to manage.
A commision-able artist is an artist who already is so successful that a 20% commission = a salary for the manager.
A traditional manager can step into that existing business, coordinate the team, negotiate larger opportunities, grow revenue streams, and help take the artist to the next level.
Most artists are not at that stage yet.
The Artists We Build
They are still developing:
- Their sound and artistic identity
- Their music catalog
- Their recordings and production quality
- Their audience and fan base
- Their social media presence
- Their content strategy
- Their live performance experience
- Their professional team
- Their business knowledge and systems
This does not mean they are not ready for professional support.
It means they need a different approach.
Red Velvet Studios operates as an artist development agency designed to help artists move from the building stage into established independent careers.
Our goal is to help artists create valuable careers with strong brands, loyal audiences, professional teams, and sustainable income.
Many artists will choose to remain independent and own their careers. Others may eventually pursue major record label opportunities.
The goal is not simply to get signed—the goal is to build an artist that is successful enough to have that option.
Who We Accept Onto Our Roster
This program is not for hobbyists.
We look for artists who:
- Are serious about making music their career
- Are highly motivated and move quickly
- Are willing to make decisions and take action
- Are open to mentorship, accountability, and professional feedback
- Are committed to consistently writing, recording, rehearsing, performing, and creating content
- Are willing to invest financially in their growth
We Are Not a Record Label
Record labels may provide advances and finance an artist's recordings, marketing, videos, touring, and other major expenses in exchange for ownership rights and recoupment of those investments.
Red Velvet Studios does not finance an artist's career.
The artists we work with have their own budgets and are prepared to invest in recordings, content, marketing, performances, and professional services.
Our role is to help artists strategically allocate their budget, avoid unnecessary expenses, build the right team, and invest in the areas that will have the greatest long-term impact.
Building Consistency
Talent is only the starting point.
Professional artists build routines.
At Red Velvet Studios, we encourage our artists to:
- Perform monthly in showcases, concerts, and events
- Maintain regular rehearsals and invest in rehearsal spaces when appropriate
- Spend frequent time in the recording studio developing their music
- Create content consistently and actively engage with their audience
- Set goals and execute on them
Great careers are built through discipline, consistency, and repeated action over time.
The Artist & Management Partnership
CEO & COO
We believe an artist's career should be run like a business.
The artist is the CEO. Their creative vision, identity, values, and artistic direction always come first.
Red Velvet Studios acts as the COO, helping build the strategy, systems, team, business infrastructure, and opportunities around the artist's vision.
The artist and management are the two primary leaders of the artist business. Producers, collaborators, friends, family members, and other third parties should not have greater influence over major career decisions than the artist and management relationship.
A Long-Term Commitment
Building a successful career takes time.
For that reason, our management relationships require a minimum one-year commitment.
The strongest results come from trust, communication, accountability, and a willingness to execute a long-term strategy.
Management Compensation
Red Velvet Studios receives a 20% commission on the artist's entertainment-related income.
This may include:
- Streaming revenue
- Music sales
- Merchandise sales
- Sync licensing
- Brand partnerships and sponsorships
- Influencer and social media income
- Other entertainment opportunities
The management commission does not replace payment for professional services.
Additional work such as recording, production, marketing, content creation, event production, and other hands-on services may require separate project fees, retainers, or service agreements.

You are the CEO of your artistry.
We are the COO helping build the business around your vision.
Together, we build the strategy, assemble the team, create opportunities, and develop a career designed to last.
