Demo Submission at Red Velvet Studios

"Helping Artists Develop Their Sound & Brand"

Step 1: Let Us Hear You

Before anything else, we need to hear your talent — whether it’s an original song or a cover.

This helps us understand your vocal ability, tone, control, and overall potential.

You can submit:

  • A live performance clip (phone recording is fine)
  • A studio or home recording
  • A link to your music or performance video

This is your first impression — show us your sound, your voice, and your potential.

Step 2: Let Us See You

Your image, energy, and presence are a major part of who you are as an artist.

We want to see how you present yourself — because visuals, confidence, and charisma are key elements of your brand.

We also look for what we call the “It Factor.”

That means star quality — something unique, magnetic, and authentic that draws people in.

It’s not just about looks or followers; it’s about presence, attitude, and creative identity.

Please include:

  • Social media links (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.)
  • A photo or video of yourself
  • Any visuals that express your aesthetic and personality

How you represent yourself visually tells us just as much as how you sound — both are part of your artistry.

Step 3: Who We Are & How We Work

Red Velvet Studios is a professional music production company — we are not a free service or open submission platform.

We are a business, and our work involves professional studio time, songwriting, production, and engineering.

We are selective with who we work with.

Working with Red Velvet Studios is an exclusive opportunity for artists who meet our standards of talent, professionalism, and potential.

All clients pay for our time and services.

Our production rates reflect the level of quality, experience, and creative development we deliver.

Step 4: What Is a Demo?

If you have original music that hasn’t been professionally produced yet, that’s what we call a demo.

A demo is a rough version of your song — a way to show your creative idea and potential.

It should include:

  • The chord progression
  • The song structure (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.)
  • The tempo (BPM) and key of the song

Think of it as the blueprint of your song.

It doesn’t have to be perfect — just clear enough to communicate the concept.

We may later adjust the chords, key, or structure during production.

Step 5: Starting from Scratch

If we like your voice, tone, and creative potential, we may decide the best option is to start from scratch instead of working from old demos.

That means we’ll write and produce new songs with you — co-writing to build something fresh, original, and truly aligned with your artistic identity.

Many of our strongest productions begin this way — creating brand new material designed to fit your sound and direction perfectly.

Step 6: Evaluation Process

Every demo or performance submission is personally reviewed by our producer.

We evaluate:

  • The strength of your writing
  • The catchiness of your melody
  • The tone, range, and quality of your voice
  • Your potential marketability and creative direction

Step 7: Artist Potential vs. Songwriting Ability

Some artists have great voices but weaker songwriting — and that’s okay.

Great songs build great artists.

If we feel your voice is strong but your song isn’t ready, we may offer to co-write or connect you with other writers to help elevate your sound.

This isn’t a setback — it’s an opportunity to grow creatively with guidance and collaboration.

Step 8:Trusting Our Taste

If a song doesn’t meet our standards, we won’t move forward with it.

Our decisions are based on professional taste, artistic integrity, and experience.

Our opinion and taste are a major part of what we do — it’s what shapes our reputation and ensures every song we work on meets a certain level of quality.

We make choices that reflect the best artistic direction for your career, helping represent you in the strongest, most professional way possible.

Sometimes that means choosing one song over another, or suggesting we start new material entirely to make sure your catalog represents your very best work.

Everything we do is guided by the goal of helping you stand out and move forward as an artist.

Step 9: Selection & Feedback

After review, we’ll let you know which songs or ideas we want to move forward with.

If your demo or submission isn’t selected, we may still provide constructive feedback or invite you to co-write on future projects.

Step 10: Co-Writing & Royalties

Most songs require creative collaboration — meaning the producer will also receive songwriting credit. Royalty splits are a standard practice in the professional music business.

Typical royalty splits:

  • Artist writes most lyrics/melody → 80% Artist / 20% Producer
  • Equal collaboration → 50/50 split
  • Producer significantly rewrites or restructures → Higher producer share

All splits are discussed and agreed upon before production or release to ensure fairness and clarity.

Step 11: Production Fee & Agreement

Before production begins:

  • The artist pays an upfront production fee, which covers studio time, creative development, engineering, and resources.
  • Both parties sign a Production Agreement, outlining payment terms, royalties, and professional responsibilities.

This ensures clarity, commitment, and professionalism at every step.

Our goal is to help you develop not just songs — but a lasting, career-ready sound.

Step 12: Marketing & Promotion

Once your music is created, the next step is marketing and promotion — which is a separate process from production.

Our Marketing & Promotion services include:

  • Social Media Marketing & Management
  • Public Relations (PR) & Press Outreach
  • Campaign Strategy & Branding Development
  • Influencer and Playlist Outreach

While production focuses on creating the music, marketing focuses on promoting what you’ve already made.

This stage is about building visibility, growing your audience, and positioning your brand.

We evaluate what you currently have — your songs, visuals, online presence, and personal brand — and then create a plan to amplify your work strategically across social platforms and press outlets.

Marketing services are offered selectively, and pricing depends on the scale and scope of your campaign.

Common Q&A

Q: Does my demo need to be mixed/mastered?
A: No. It just needs to show your voice, melody, and talent clearly.

Q: Do I have to submit an original song?
A: Not always. Covers or live performances are fine if you’re not a songwriter.

Q: What if I’m not a songwriter?
A: That’s fine—we can write songs for you or co-write with you.

Q: What do you look for besides vocals?
A: The full package: image, creativity, songwriting ability, artistry.

Q: Do I need to live in Los Angeles?
A: No. We work remotely via video calls, Google Drive, FaceTime, etc. You can also travel to LA—or we can travel to you (at your expense).

Q: Does it cost money to work with you?
A: Yes. Artists hire us for professional production services. We only work with clients who have a budget.

Q: What happens after I submit my demo?
A: The producer reviews it. If we like what we hear, we’ll reach out with next steps.

Q: Can we collaborate?
A: Yes, but all collaborations are through professional, formal business agreements.

You may request a feature from Joseph Brooks as an artist (no fee). All other services require payment.
